2016 Victorian Aboriginal Honour Roll Kicks-Off
The touring exhibition of the Victorian Aboriginal Honour Roll kicked-off its 2016 road show at the Community Hub at the Dock in Melbourne today.
The Victorian Aboriginal Honour Roll celebrates the remarkable dedication and determination of Aboriginal Victorians across the state.
To date 79 outstanding Aboriginal community members and leaders have been recognised through the Honour Roll for their achievements and contribution in a wide range of fields including justice, education, health, sports, defence, social services, and the arts.
The Honour Roll, which has a permanent home in Parliament, will be on display at the Library at the Dock until 13 April 2016.
It will then travel to Melbourne’s Docklands, the Youth Justice Precinct at Malmsbury, Wodonga and Swan Hill.
The Honour Roll’s name was changed last year from Victorian Indigenous Honour Roll to Victorian Aboriginal Honour Roll to reflect the community’s preference for the word ‘Aboriginal’ rather than ‘Indigenous’.
Quotes attributable to the Minister for Aboriginal Affairs Natalie Hutchins
“The launch of the 2016 road show in Melbourne provides an opportunity to reflect on the profound contribution Aboriginal Victorians have made to our state.”
“I encourage Victorians to nominate an Aboriginal community member they know who has made a difference – to publicly thank someone for their leadership, achievements and contribution to the community.”
