A NEW SCHOOL FOR TAYLORS HILL IS ON THE WAY
Taylors Hill will soon have a new school, with the Andrews Labor Government providing $12 million to build a secondary school for the local community.
Member for Sydenham Natalie Hutchins announced the funding as part of the Victorian Budget 2016/17.
Member for Sydenham Natalie Hutchins has stated:
“The new secondary school at Taylors Hill will meet the needs of our growing community, and give local families greater peace of mind.”
“By investing locally, the Victorian Labor Government is making sure every community in Victoria has great schools and every child gets the chance to succeed.”
After a great local campaign over the last two year, the 2016/17 budget the Victorian Labor Government has secured $12 million on top of the funding secured in the budget last year to purchase the land.
Initially a commitment was made for 10-12 Senior College during the 2014 election, however after talking to the local community and with new data present it was evident that a 7-12 Secondary College was required.
The new secondary school will give local parents and families the certainty they need, and make sure their kids have the facilities they deserve.
In total, the Budget provides the investment needed to acquire land and build 23 new schools. This means that despite 4 years of under-investment from the former Liberal Government, the Labor Government is now rolling out 42 new schools across the state.
The Victorian Budget 2016/17 includes:
- $185 million to plan, build or complete 12 new schools
- $102 million to buy land for at least 11 new school sites and additions at several other schools
Victoria is experiencing unprecedented population growth, with an expected increase of 300,000 new students by 2031, making new schools a vital investment.
