NEW SCHOOL OFFICIALLY OPENS IN SYDENHAM
Families in Melbourne’s outer West are enjoying a new state-of-the-art local school, with Taylors Hill West Secondary College officially opening the school for students today.
Member for Sydenham Natalie Hutchins visited Taylors Hill West Secondary College today to officially open it and meet some of the local students attending it.
The new school has been designed to inspire an inclusive and high-achieving culture in its students, equipping them with the skills they will need to thrive in a 21st century economy. The school will interact with and complement the Taylors Hill West Community and Sports Reserve planned to be developed south of the school.
The buildings and services within the reserve are designed not only for the students’ benefit, but also to provide improved educational, social and recreational facilities for the wider local community. These will play a vital role in enhancing wellbeing and creating a healthy community.
The school, designed by Brand Architects and built by Devco Project and Construction management, will accommodate 1,100 students.
Taylors Hill West Secondary College is one of 11 new schools opening across the state this week and one of 21 that have opened over the last two years.
The Andrews Labor Government is now delivering an unprecedented 64 new school projects across Victoria to meet the demand created by the state’s population boom, with more than 90,000 school-aged children and teenagers predicted to call Victoria home by 2022.
This includes having already built the school infrastructure needed to meet the needs of Victoria’s growing student population until 2019 through an unprecedented investment of more than $2.8 billion as part of the Education State.
Victoria’s school building boom has delivered more than 1200 school upgrades, supporting almost 5000 construction jobs for Victorians.
