Residents on the outer edge of Melbourne will soon have access to improved community spaces, with the allocation of $40 million under the Andrews Labor Government’s Interface Growth Fund.

From spaces that support maternal child and health services to seniors activities, Minister for Local Government Natalie Hutchins said funds had ensured a total investment of $102 million in 26 community projects across Melbourne’s ten Interface Council areas, including:

• $2.6 million to redevelop the Barry Road Community Centre, providing upgraded facilities for existing maternal and child health care services, kindergarten and adult learning
• $4.15 million to create a central community space in Rosebud including a playground, enhanced beach access and footpaths
• $3.8 million to expand the Eltham Leisure Centre aquatic facilities, better providing for local schools, sports clubs and the community
• $3.5 million to revitalise Melton’s town centre, boosting local employment and creating a space for cultural and community events
• $1.5 million to redevelop the home of Werribee Football Club, allowing the Club to build on existing services for local young people and those from diverse backgrounds
• $3.5 million for Pakenham’s IYU Soccer Reserve to build a new pavilion and create recreational space for local families
• $1.4 million for the Bridgewater Family and Community Centre Redevelopment in Berwick, creating a space for kindergarten services, maternal and child health

Recognising the growing needs of communities in Melbourne’s rapidly expanding outer suburbs, the Interface Growth Fund was delivered as part of the Labor Government’s 2015-16 Victorian Budget.

The ten Interface Councils are Cardinia, Casey, Hume, Melton, Mitchell, Mornington Peninsula, Nillumbik, Whittlesea, Wyndham and Yarra Ranges. A second round for the remaining funds will commence shortly.
