The Andrews Labor Government is promoting women’s health and the prevention of family violence with a funding boost to Victoria’s peak body for gender equity.

Minister for Women and the Prevention of Family Violence Natalie Hutchins today announced funding of $400,000 to support Gender Equity Victoria (GEN VIC), Victoria’s new organisation for gender equity, women’s health, and the prevention of violence against women.

GEN VIC will work with the Government to deliver Victoria’s gender equality strategy, Safe and Strong.

Today’s funding boost will enable GEN VIC to:

• work with local and regional partners to build capacity for gender equality state wide
• bring expert gender analysis to Government policy and planning
• work with women’s health agencies to conduct gender audits with their partner organisations
• deliver resources to promote gender equality
• assist the delivery of the Government’s Women’s Leadership Programs; and
• lift women’s visibility as subject matter experts, leaders and spokespersons.

Formerly the Women’s Health Association of Victoria, GEN VIC was launched as Victoria’s new peak body for women’s health in April.

Today’s funding forms part of a $3.8 million dollar boost the Labor Government has committed to the women’s health sector.
