Minister for Industrial Relations, Natalie Hutchins, will tonight reaffirm the Labor Government’s commitment at the Gippsland Trades and Labour Council’s annual Labour Day Dinner with Member for Eastern Victoria, Harriet Shing.

As promised before the election, the Labor Government will conduct an inquiry into insecure work, including sham contracting and the labour hire industry.

So-called ‘phoenix activities’, where a company transfers assets from an indebted company to a new company to avoid paying debts including workers’ wages and entitlements, will also be examined.

The Labor Government is standing up for workers in Gippsland, ensuring they are paid appropriately and employed in safe workplaces.
