Labour Hire Inquiry
The issues raised in last night’s Four Corners are very concerning. This is not just about underpayment of wages – this is about creating an underclass of foreign workers.
No employee should ever be exploited, harassed or deprived of their basic liberties.
The experiences of these workers show exactly why the Andrews Labor Government has promised an inquiry into labour hire, sham contracting and the unethical treatment of employees. It’s clear that Victoria needs a better system in place when it comes to regulating labour hire practices.
The Victorian Government will also advocate for a national response for what is a national shame.
Every worker should be treated with fairness and respect – and every unethical labour contractor should know that these activities will not be tolerated.
The Terms of Reference and process for the inquiry will be released in the coming weeks.
